Nouveau Riche University = an evening of laughable entertainment

Yesterday after mother's chemo appointment, she wanted to get something to eat.  If she wants to eat, we eat.  I don't question her chemo non-reactions or actions, so we went out for lunch.

We went out to the China AA Buffet on Mission Boulevard in Hayward.  First time there and it was very good.  I was totally surprised by the choices offered.  I know mother enjoyed her meal.  That is always a very good thing.

While dining my cell phone rang.  It was Chris from Nouveau Riche University wanting to know "If I would like to make more money, more often".  Well, sure I would like to do that.  They were having a seminar that evening at the Hilton Garden Inn in Emeryville that evening at 7pm.  I would be able to go if interested.

I said sure I could free up some time to see their presentation.  It was interesting to note that you had to dress in business casual to attend.

I also needed to call Chris when I reached the lobby to let him know that I had arrived and signed in.  Well, I called Chris when I showed up and he met me in the lobby.  He was like glue on me for the first five minutes.  He and the other sales people associated with this Nouveau Riche University were all slick model/actor looking people.  You know the type, if they were actually salespeople they would make a ton of money legitimately.

I was sort of dissappointed with the presentation, no soft drinks, no appetizers, I had foregone dinner for this presentation.  They had pictures of ice water and a bowl of cheap hard candy at the back of the room.

The presentation started and this one guy was telling us how he had worked in education and industry but was selling his time for money.  He was giving up all his time with his family for working for an employer.

The next presenter was a nice and entertaining person named Clifton.  He was telling us how he had signed up with NRU and within a month he had purchased a property with positive cash flow of 600 per month.  He went on to tell us about the property concierge and how you can purchase properties with just one click of a mouse button.  But you needed to be at a higher level to be able to access this information.

www.propertyconcierge.com and then login as quest.

Oh yeah, he bought the property sight unseen. The company NRU was so respectable that we should never question the offerings either.  They (NRU) finds the property, rehabs the property, rents the property, manages the property and then offers it to you all as a positive cash flow offering.  Just one click and it's yours.  You're gonna be buying a property with nothing down and using that "OPM" other people's money.

Now for the multi-level marketing part of this program.  You can make extra money by spreading the word about NRU.

The tuition for the Nouveau Riche University 20 day Real Estate education "regents" program is $16,000.00 with $3,500 worth of books and media known as the collection.  Once you get four other people to join in you can now earn 50% commission on each new person.  That would be $9,750.00 for each person you sign up at that "regents" level.  You can get all down loaded to a debit visa card twice a week!

  • The presentation departed from being an education opportunity about 1/2 way through and became all about signing people up.
  • The people sitting around in the audience were plants.  I thought the guy next to me would wet his pants each time the speaker said something like "wouldn't you like to make more money too?"
  • If the property concierge was such a great deal, why aren't the principals in this endeavor taking advantage of these proprieties?

My shout out to Chris, who read my activerain blog to recruit me for this presentation.  Chris, you can make more money without going to jail in this pyramid scheme.  If you want to find some positive cash flow properties, consult a real REALTOR.  It takes access to the MLS, county tax records and an Excel spread sheet to determine and find positive cash flow properties.

Hi Michael,

I've been to a Nouveau Riche presentation and you had a considerably different experience than I.  I wasn't at your presentation so I don't know exactly what you saw or what was said, but I'm very confident in stating your blog is replete with cynicism and hyperbole.  It's a blog, I get it.  You're trying to be funny and witty for your audience.

If Nouveau Riche didn't make sense to you, that's fine... but it does make sense, and is making a tremendous difference for thousands of people across the nation - and no one has gone to jail.

Cheers,
Matt

Hi Mike,

I've been in real estate for over 15 years and a broker for more than 9 years. I did not start to invest until I went to the Nouveau Riche' College. I always meant to invest, I just never got around to it. I went to my first college, came back home and bought 4 houses in 3 months. My focus was always about taking care of my clients and my agents.  Because of this school, I know more about the real estate  business than people who've been in real estate a lot longer than I have AND I can serve my clients better.

I got a chance to see what other people were able to accomplish with the education and the community support before I joined. For me, the cost was cheap. I wish I had found this years ago, when I was your age.  I have 9 house all over the Metro Atlanta area and they are all rented!  My next step will be Multi-Family purchases and then land acquisition. Because I am so confident in this company and the support they provide, I have the confidence to move forward on some things that might seem out of reach to most.

As for the guy next to you who was about to wet his pants, you'd be doing the same dance to if really understood the potential.  I wish you success in what you do.

Kymn in Atlanta!

Hate to do this to you Mike, but when you take aim at some one or something, you would be best suited to provide proper details. Also, what is strange about being asked to dress in business casual? Most people when dealing with money know they are talking about business, hence it is a business opportunity meeting, thus business attire is requested. It's www.investorconierge.com which provides NRU students the ability to get their feet wet in the Investment world, NOT www.propertyconcierge.com. Your "miss" on this if you will, leads me to believe one thing and one thing only, and that is that your mind was closed before you got there, I'd imagine it is with most things. You are correct in saying that spreadsheets help with cash flow predictions, hence we use our EDUCATION to run those numbers even against what is on the investor concierge and then make a decison.  That being said your statement about it taking access to the MLS to find properties is considerably naive to say the least. You are a Realtor, do you mean to tell me there are no such things as FSBO's that never appear on the MLS? Or there are never homes sold Pre-MLS? Just be honest in your assesment. Access to county tax-records are a) provided by the Investor Concierge and B) Accessible through the county which means that has nothing to do with NRU. That has to do with picking up a phone and calling the county, which we are taught to do.  I am sorry to see you were disappointed by the fact that there were "pictures" of water in the room, I belive you meant "pitchers."  Listen, if it doesn't make sense for you, that's ok, but if you are going to sit here and bash an incredible opportunity which has proven itself time and again then come with a legitimate, credible argument, or at least try a little harder next time.

Best of luck in whatever you truly choose to pursue.

It appears that I am not alone in having some doubts about Nouveau Riche University.  Here is the link to the Wikipedia article.

I think that it would be great to teach the real estate tips to the students.  However the entire recruiting of new students to get mentor fees is not kosher.

My comments about them being all dressed up is that the presentation appeared to be FAKE, STAGED and at the least DISINGEUOUS.

Wikipedia...interesting source of completely unreliable information. Did you know, that Wikipedia is an "open source" network, meaning anyone can write an article on it? Did you also know that Wikipedia openly employs writers with zero experience in the given fields on which they are writing? Don't believe me? If not, read this blog, including a quote from the Co-Founder of Wikipedia and his admittance that he has no problem with fraud: http://www.blogworldexpo.com/blog/2007/03/01/wikipedia-founder-has-no-problem-with-fraud/

Again, I challenge your credibility and the sources you are siting. You also mentioned or seem to infer that there is something wrong with the fact that NRU pays it's ISA's twice a week. Tell me, what exactly is wrong with getting paid twice a week? And let's talk about the recruiting of people...The Army has recruiters (they get paid) UCLA, Stanford, Cal, Harvard, all have recruiters who all get paid. Major corporations ALL have recruiters, who get paid! Every company recruits! Let's keeping going you mention the word "pyramid" in bold letters. Can you define what a pyramid is? I'd imagine the answer may be no, so allow me to educate you a bit. A pyramid, is an ILLEGAL money operation in which money is exchanging hands and NO product is ever delivered. Since you yourself contend that the Education provided by NRU has some value, then we know there is an actual product and once again  are shooting yourself in the foot.  All dressed up again? FAKE, STAGED, DISINGENUOUS? If that is the case then we probably shouldn't wear suits to weddings, or other formal functions. Bankers, Stock Brokers and the CEO's of Fortune 500 companies, probably shouldn't wear suits either?

Michael, let's just call this what this is. NRU is not for you, that is OK, but please look at some of your arguments and check them against the way in which several people, including myself have rebutted and perhaps you can admit that this just wasn't the right opportunity for you. Again, that is OK. But there are a lot of incredibly good people experience incredible things in this community and you should celebrate the success of others, so as to create more success in your own life not indict people for taking on their lives.

All the best,

John

WOW....had to add this in your "About Us" section you say: "I am a Certified Staging Professional C.S.P., which means that I am able to stage your home to sell faster and for more...."

So, you are trained on how to deceive? And the suits are FAKE? HA!!
